ENCORE Melaka, a state-of-the-art theatre performance, is looking for an ensemble of performers to take part in its shows.
Organised by the Yong Tai Group, the performance is a collaborative project with renowned Chinese performing arts group Impression Series, which was co-founded by China’s top three directors – Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge and Fan Yue – also known as the “Iron Triangle”.
The shows are expected to be held starting in February next year and the group are currently on a roadshow to recruit performers.
Perak Non-Islamic Affairs Committee Deputy Head Choong Shin Heng, who welcomed the group during a visit to the Perak State Secretariat last week, said the auditions for experienced talents started on July 19 and will be held at nine locations.
“They are looking out for trained and experienced performers. The audition in Ipoh, will be held at the Perak State Secretariat Building multipurpose hall on Aug 5,” he said.
“Besides Perak, the other locations for auditions include Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor, Sarawak, Penang, Pahang, Kelantan and Sabah,” he told a press conference.
Choong said the auditions are for dancers aged between 18 and 35 with traditional or modern dance training.
“They are also looking for vocalists aged between 18 and 45, with traditional or modern vocal training.
“Trained actors or actresses and trained traditional instrument musicians aged between 18 and 45 are also being recruited,” he said.
Choong said the show in Melaka will be the first international show to be held outside China.
“I understood that the theatre that houses the performance is under construction. There will be two to three shows daily,” he said, adding that the three directors behind Impression Series, were also the key success behind the impressive opening and closing ceremonies during the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.
