BEIJING, Oct. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — On October 4, at the Malaysia-China Economic Summit, the chief project director Wang Chaoge and PTS Impression CEO Wu Guanglun signed an agreement on this summit’s only cultural cooperation project “Impression Melaka”, with the leaders from China and Malaysia in attendance at the summit serving as witnesses. With the signing, the theatre production, “Impression Melaka”, officially steps onto the world’s stage. The event is another milestone in the increased recognition by more countries and regions of China’s proprietary cultural brands, of which “Impression Melaka” is an outstanding example.

Malaysia and China have maintained an excellent relationship over the last several years with substantial progress having been made in several areas of cooperation across various sectors. Bilateral trade between the two countries topped US$94.8 billion for 2012. China has been Malaysia’s largest trade partner for four consecutive years while Malaysia has been China’s largest trade partner among ASEAN countries for five consecutive years. China’s ambassador to Malaysia Chai Xi noted that over 1.5 million Chinese tourists visited Malaysia last year and the number is expected to exceed 5 million over the next several years.

As China’s cultural export brand, “Impression Melaka” is created and directed by renowned Chinese stage director Wang Chaoge. The theatrical production, which will be performed in a novel and unique manner, is set to take the island of Malacca onto the world stage and drive the development of the local tourism economy. It has been endorsed as a key national project by Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism and Culture. The project will become one of the iconic events for the 2014 Malaysia-China Friendship Year, which marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“Impression Melaka” is expected to create 500 direct and numerous indirect jobs for Malaccans, while attracting additional foreign investment which, in turn, will further boost local development. The innovative tourism product has received the praise and support of Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism and Culture Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz. The project will further promote cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia and facilitate the development of Malaysia’s tourism industry, making it a new milestone for the friendship between the two countries.
